2 Information We Collect

Photos and Images

When you use Rockly to identify rocks, minerals, or gems, you may take or upload photos. These images are sent to Google AI services (Gemini) for analysis and identification purposes.

Chat Conversations

When you interact with Rocky, our AI rock tutor, your questions and the AI's responses are processed through Google AI services to provide you with accurate geological information.

Location Data

If you choose to save the location where you found a specimen, this data is stored locally on your device within your rock collection.

Collection Data

Your rock collection, including photos, notes, and identification details, is stored locally on your device and in your iCloud account if you have iCloud backup enabled.

3 Third-Party AI Services (Google AI)

Important: Rockly uses Google AI services (Gemini) for rock identification and the AI tutor feature. When you use these features, your data is processed by Google.

What Google may receive:

  • Photos you submit for rock identification
  • Text queries you send to the AI rock tutor
  • Technical data necessary for API communication

Google's handling of this data is governed by Google's Privacy Policy and their Cloud Privacy Notice. We encourage you to review these policies to understand how Google processes and stores data.

✓ What We Do NOT Collect or Store

As the developer of Rockly, we want to be crystal clear:

  • We do NOT have servers that store your photos, identification results, or chat conversations
  • We do NOT collect personal information such as your name, email, or contact details
  • We do NOT sell, share, or monetize any of your data
  • We do NOT track your usage beyond standard App Store analytics provided by Apple

4 Data Storage

Local Storage: Your rock collection, preferences, and app settings are stored locally on your device. This data remains under your control.

iCloud Sync: If you have iCloud backup enabled, your collection data may be backed up to your personal iCloud account, subject to Apple's privacy policies.

Google AI Processing: Images and text sent to Google AI services may be temporarily processed and stored by Google according to their data retention policies. We recommend reviewing Google's policies for details on their data handling practices.

5 Your Rights and Choices

  • Delete Your Data: You can delete your rock collection and all associated data at any time by deleting the app or clearing app data
  • Location Access: You can deny or revoke location permissions in your device settings
  • Camera Access: You can deny or revoke camera permissions; you can still use the app by uploading photos from your gallery
  • iCloud Sync: You can disable iCloud backup for Rockly in your device settings

6 Children's Privacy

Rockly is designed to be family-friendly and does not knowingly collect personal information from children. Since we don't collect personal data, the app can be safely used by geology enthusiasts of all ages under parental guidance.

7 Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this policy. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
